Algorithms Take Control of Wall Street
"Over the past decade, algorithmic trading has overtaken the industry. From the single desk of a startup hedge fund to the gilded halls of Goldman Sachs, computer code is now responsible for most of the activity on Wall Street. (By some estimates, computer-aided high-frequency trading now accounts for about 70 percent of total trade volume.) Increasingly, the market’s ups and downs are determined not by traders competing to see who has the best information or sharpest business mind but by algorithms feverishly scanning for faint signals of potential profit" [Wired]
White House Plans to Push Global Warming Policy, GOP Vows Fight

Promises and Riots
"You cannot have generous welfare state laws that allow people to retire on government pensions while they are in their 50s, in an era when most people live decades longer.
In the United States, that kind of generosity exists mostly for members of state government employees' unions-- which is why some states are running out of money, and why the Obama administration is bailing them out, in the name of "stimulus."" [Real Clear Politics]

The *true* John Conyers scandal.
"Background: back over Thanksgiving weekend John Conyers III (the son of Rep. John Conyers) reported a theft of computers and concert tickets from the car that he was using. The problem? John Conyers III was using the car unlawfully: it was leased to his father’s Congressional office as an official vehicle, and Conyers was not using it in an official capacity. And it wasn’t anything like an one-time event, either: John Conyers III also got a speeding ticket on the car back in September. The behavior was so egregious that Rep. Conyers isn’t even trying to fight it: he’s just swiftly reimbursing the government as comprehensively as possible before the 112th Congress gets sworn in." [RedState]

The Fallacy of ‘Economic Equality’
"On the surface, the idea of economic equality may seem like an honorable moral goal, which explains its resilience and power over people. This is why it continues repeatedly and with impunity to bring one economic and social disaster after another anywhere it’s tried. On the flip side, opponents of economic equality are branded as greedy, selfish, and immoral — which is why few politicians dare oppose this absurdity." [ Pajamas Media]

Obama Destined to Be a Footnote in Presidential History
"He was the man destined to save this country from his predecessor's failures. He was the man who would end the war in Iraq, finish the war in Afghanistan, and shut down the prison at Guantánamo Bay. A local radio station reports ........
"It’s Christmas caroling with a message."Are you kidding me? A caravan of 80 people to sing insults and, according to eyewitnesses, shouting “F*CK YOU” at various houses right before Christmas? This isn’t “caroling,” this is intimidation. On private property. Census: Fast growth in states with no income tax
"First, the great engine of growth in America is not the Northeast Megalopolis, which was growing faster than average in the mid-20th century, or California, which grew lustily in the succeeding half-century. It is Texas.
There's a similar lesson in the fact that Florida gains two seats in the reapportionment and New York loses two.
This leads to a second point, which is that growth tends to be stronger where taxes are lower. Seven of the nine states that do not levy an income tax grew faster than the national average. The other two, South Dakota and New Hampshire, had the fastest growth in their regions, the Midwest and New England." [Washington Examiner]

The Picture of Barack Obama
"The danger to America is not Barack Obama, but a citizenry capable of entrusting a man like him with the Presidency. It will be far easier to limit and undo the follies of an Obama presidency than to restore the necessary common sense and good judgment to a depraved electorate willing to have such a man for their president.
The problem is much deeper and far more serious than Mr. Obama, who is a mere symptom of what ails America. Blaming the prince of the fools should not blind anyone to the...multitude of fools such as those who made him their president...... " [American Thinker]

Stopping Obama: A Republican Game Plan
"Barack Obama may have had a licking, but he keeps on ticking. How will the new Congress deal with a president who is relentless in his agenda to create a transformed America?
John Fund believes that Obama 2.0 will rely on executive orders and rule-making to circumvent Congress. Fund sees signs of this approach in a new Labor Department plan to make life even more miserable for business through a variety of means not resorted to by previous administrations, Republican or Democrat. Conversely, monitoring of unions will be weakened by transferring the responsibility for whistle-blowing investigations from OSHA to a department charged with scrutinizing unions. Given the added workload from OSHA, union-monitoring (how union leaders spend workers' dues, for example) will inevitably be weakened.
Charles Krauthammer foresees that Obama will also exercise his control over the fourth branch of government -- the bureaucracy, the regulations, and the rules it lives to proliferate -- to power his agenda for the next two years. Obama the poker player has already tipped his hand. He is using bureaucratic edict to advance card check, bypassing a Congress that resisted union demands to bring about card check via legislation." Lame-duck sessions supposed to be a thing of the past, historians say
"The trouble with lame-duck sessions began in 1801, when the outgoing Federalists used their last days in power to help appoint a bunch of judges. It flared up again in 1922, when President Warren Harding and the lame-duck Republicans tried to ram through unpopular legislation after their defeats.
Opponents said this was un-democratic: These sessions seemed to violate the ever-popular Washington rule that "elections have consequences." Finally, Congress passed - and the states ratified - the 20th Amendment.
Historians say lawmakers thought they were ending lame-duck Congresses forever." [Washington Post]

It's Production, Stupid
"The only real cure for poverty is production. The way to maximize production is to maximize the incentives to production....
...the simple truth [is] that demand never needs to be stimulated. As humans our wants are unlimited, so when economists say we must stimulate demand, they're ignoring the greater reality that all production is engaged in with an eye on consumption. Demand is the easy part...
At all times...there is as much work to be done -- as many potential jobs to be filled -- as there are unsatisfied human desires which could be satisfied with a greater production of wealth; and as these desires are limitless, the amount of work to be done -- the number of potential jobs to be filled-is also limitless.
What actually drives economic recovery and growth is increased production, which results from increased incentives to produce, and reduced costs burdening production. That involves reduced tax rates, which allow producers to keep a higher percentage of what they produce. It also involves reduced regulatory costs and reduced costs of government spending...But Obama refuses to consider any of this because it involves reducing rather than expanding the power of government, and he is rigidly opposed to that ideologically... This doesn't mean we should not extend unemployment benefits. It just shows that Obama and the Democrats have no understanding of how to promote economic growth and recovery. " [American Thinker]

Teen Tyrants
"During the eight years I lived in Japan, there occurred a rash of horrific murders committed by young men in their teens. Almost all of these crimes were the acts of lonely outcasts, teens with especially low self-esteem who had been victims of bullying and ostracism their whole lives. .......
It was the mob attack last week on Charles and Camilla that brought back these memories for me. This attack was also the work of teenagers for the most part, but it had a very different source. The violence in Britain was the work of an inflamed mob, roaming en masse from one object of attack to the next and arrogantly chanting "off with their heads" as they assaulted the royals' car. These were not the actions of lonely outcasts driven to despair by years of abuse. Rather, they were the acts of young people who felt an almost unlimited sense of entitlement and who became enraged when their expectations were not met." [American Thinker]

Death of the Global Warming Myth
"Consider that it was only last year when the scientific and political world was held spellbound by the deliberations of the UN Climate Change summit held in Copenhagen. Nearly 45,000 attendees anxiously anticipated a global climate agreement that could spare us all from the imminent planetary incineration that was about to befall us thanks to the unholy alliance of SUVs, deforestation, and belching cows. American taxpayers alone shelled out nearly $400,000 for Nancy Pelosi to lead a cadre of liberal Congressmen and staffers to attend the Warmer deliberations.
Yet now, just one year later, political leaders are staying as far away from the annual climate summit (this year held in Cancun) as possible. Even the Congressional Warmer triumvirate of Henry Waxman, Dianne Feinstein, and Barbara Boxer skipped the festivities. Remember it was Boxer who proclaimed not so long ago that global warming was her "signature issue." Yet when it came time for this year's convention, Boxer merely murmured, "I'm sending a statement to Cancun."" [American Thinker]

Walter Williams' Memoir
"Although Walter's memoir is titled "Up from the Projects," the projects of the era when he was growing up bear virtually no resemblance to the projects of today.
For one thing, those projects were clean, and the people living in them helped keep them clean, by sweeping the halls and tending to the surrounding areas outside of the buildings as well. Obama Opens The Door To Raid Social Security
"We have maintained the myth for several decades that FICA payments actually exist in a social security trust fund. I say this is a myth because in fact the money is lent to the government for general budget purposes and in return the trust fund receives promises to repay the loans. At the end of the day, the social security trust fund is only as good as the government's general ability to pay, which is endless because the government always can print more money. The result of printing more money out of necessity would be inflation.
The current tax holiday for a portion of employee FICA payments is another step in divorcing employee payments from employee benefits. Employee payments into the system will be reduced, but benefits will not be reduced as a result." [Legal Insurrection]

Pigford: Obama's Down Payment on the 2012 Rural South Vote
"This past Tuesday, Nov 30th, the Democrat-controlled lame-duck House passed the $1.25 billion Black Farmer’s Settlement funding known as Pigford II by a vote of 256-152.....
On top of the original billion-plus dollars previously doled out indiscriminately in Pigford I, the American taxpayer will now be on the hook for an additional $1.25 billion in payments to black “farmers,” whom did not have to provide proof of:
The U.S. government would then send a check to these “farmers” for $50,000.
President Barack Obama and the Democratic majorities in Congress have just approved payments covering up to 94,000 claimants, although no more than 33,000 black farmers ever existed at any period the suit covers." [Big Goverenment]

-Having ever farmed or having attempted to farmThe only burden of proof required in Pigford I was a form stating the claimant had “attempted” to farm, and to have a family member vouch for that assertion.
-Having ever had a loan at the USDA
-Having ever filled out paperwork to attain a farm loan
-Having ever attempted to get a loan.

CableGate's Grand Illusion
"Governments around the world want you to believe something utterly fantastic. They want you to believe that the actions of Julian Assange pose a great danger to you.
Nothing could be further from the truth. Assange's act is not an attack on the peoples of the world. Quite to the contrary, it is an attack on a very narrow group of people. It is an attack on the world's governing elites, because it shows them for what they truly are: liars, hypocrites, schemers, incompetents, egomaniacs, thieves and murderers." [American Thinker]
Mother harassed over breast milk screening
Because she did not want her pumped breast milk to pass through X-Ray machines, she was held in the "special inspection area" for 40 minutes. The week before she had refused (under published TSA rules) to allow her breast milk to be X-Rayed.
"All the same TSA parties were present from the week before surrounded me . I was demanding an explanation and wanted to speak with the manager but was refused. I was told to be quiet and do as I was told or I wasn’t going anywhere. I felt like a caged animal, stared at by multiple TSA agents and other travelers. After 15 or 20 minutes, my anger turned to tears. I couldn’t stop crying. I felt harassed, degraded, violated, falsely imprisoned, and retaliated against.
Finally, three Phoenix police department officers came. One … came in to tell me that I needed to calm down or TSA could have me arrested. He instructed me to go through alternate gates for security on my following trips because they seemed to have it out for me. He said these TSA agents saw me coming, remembered me from the week before, and wanted me to play along with their ‘horse and pony’ show or they would have me arrested." [TSA Abuse Blog]
She is now in the process of filing suit.
Is GM Back To Channel Stuffing?
"Hidden deep in today’s disappointing GM November sales release is a number that all GM longs may want to quickly forget, or else pay serious attention to. But first, earlier today, GM reported slightly disappointing sales numbers: the newly IPOed company sold 168,739 cars in November, a 11.4% increase to November 2009, which came in below expectations of a 13% rise. That’s mostly noise. What isn’t, however, is the linear rise in GM’s auto inventory safely stashed away at dealers, i.e., unsold…." [Truth about Cars]

Bush job approval rating higher than Obama's
"George W. Bush’s job approval rating as president has spiked to 47 percent, according to a Gallup poll released Monday.
That’s 1 point higher than President Barack Obama’s job approval rating in a poll taken the same week." [Politico]

Prospect of Barack Obama show causes UK to clear its decks
"With an entourage of 500 staff, an armour-plated limousine and a fleet of decoy helicopters, America's new president will arrive for his first visit to Britain amid huge razzmatazz on Tuesday for the G20 summit. But it will be his closed-door meetings with world leaders that are likely to prove the most significant of the trip" [Guardian U.K.]
U.S. Regulators Propose Requiring Backup Cameras in All New Cars by 2014
Strip away the heart rending, tear jerking liberal bias in this proposal and let's see what this will cost us ..... then ask if we REALLY need to spend this kind of money.... forced on us by the bureaucrat Washington regulators....
Let's see here: 292 people per year are killed by "backover" accidents. Having backup cameras installed might save half of them : 146 people.
To achieve this, the bureaucrats are proposing that automobiles have backup cameras installed at an estimated $2,700,000,000 per year (that's $2.7 BILLION).
That's about $20,000,000 ($20 MILLION) per person saved.
Who pays that bill? The Govm't? That is you and I from our taxes. The auto purchaser? That is also you and I.
Why don't we simply teach our family to be careful when walking behind running cars and trucks?

"Cell" Phone: Charles Manson Busted with a Mobile

WikiLeaks cables reveal how US manipulated climate accord
Just look at how the U.S. was buying off, with our tax dollars, various countries around the world. Basically we have been providing bribes to countries (and in many cases no doubt, individual government officials) who will "sign up" to our climate control aims!!! Wikileaks cables confirm this.
The Death of Modern Liberal Feminism (And its Rebirth in the Conservative Movement)
"It seems only a few short years ago that feminism was a major force for liberals that drew millions of women to vote for the Democratic Party. The narrative constantly pushed by the liberal-dominated media was that the Republican Party and conservatives were all old white guys who wanted their women barefoot and pregnant in the kitchen. However, the events of the last few years have shattered that carefully crafted narrative and exposed liberal feminism as merely another liberal movement having little to do with women's equality." Al Gore Admits Pushing a Super-Expensive ‘Green’ Failure Because He Was Trying to Get Elected President
"The science is settled: Carbon billionaire Al Gore’s “green” house of cards is crumbling. As a result he’s being forced to jettison the obviously failing parts of it in order to try and keep the rest of the sham afloat: [see this report from Reuters a week or two ago]" [The Powers That Be]

Obama Downplays WikiLeaks Fiasco
"If White House press secretaries are windows to the presidential mindset, Robert Gibbs continues to reflect President Obama in an unpresidential light.
Gibbs said: "Look, our foreign policy and our country is stronger than one guy with one website . . . and we should never be afraid of one guy who plopped down $35 and bought a Web address."
Hold on.
Is that really what Gibbs thinks, or is this just another example of his trying to be cute on the people's dime on a matter of grave importance to the nation?
Does he really believe this is just about one guy purchasing an Internet domain name? What about the fact that this one insignificant guy acquired stolen national security documents and released them publicly to the detriment of our strategic interests and our diplomatic ties?
Is Gibbs speaking only for himself here, or is this how President Obama views this matter, as well? "

An Incredible Power Grab By Whitehouse!!
The administration seeks authority to transfer funds appropriated by Congress for one purpose to be used for another purpose. This would fundamentally and dangerously end any remnants of our much hallowed "Balance of Power"! Congress' control of the purse strings would be gone.

House passes legislation to extend only some tax cuts
"Three Republicans, Walter Jones (N.C.), Ron Paul (Texas) and John Duncan (Tenn.), voted with Democrats to renew only the middle-class cuts.
Senate Republicans have enough votes to filibuster the proposal, making it highly unlikely it will pass through the upper chamber and onto President Obama's desk. " [The Hill]

How to Beat Customer Service Phone Support
"Maybe it's the Muzak, or the endless hold times, or the countless options. But there are few things as dehumanizing as finding yourself in phone limbo while a company fetches a tech-support or customer-service rep. Fortunately, with a few tricks—and a little assist from technology—you can shorten your wait." [Popular Mechanics]
Elite Crook Rangel Gets Off With Slap On The Wrist!
If you, I or Sam Mockadotch did what Representative Rangel did.... we'd be on the train to Leavenworth prison, not standing before a group of co-workers being read a mamby-pamby script by the boss!!! What a charade!
As a commentator said ..... how does Pelosi get away with this tap (not even a SLAP) on the wrist by NOT READING the actual censure? More political crap from the ruling elite!!

Strange men grope Nancy Pelosi
"Pelosi is not only able to breeze into the U.S. Capitol without a search, but she can usually board a commercial airline without submitting to the groping or nude body scan that awaits the rest of us. Members of Congress and government officials are generally exempted from the TSA's airport screenings." [Ann Coulter]
We've all seen videos of Pelosi and her entourage hustling into the Capitol, walking around the screening equipment. This is yet ANOTHER example of Washington elitist behavior ..... making themselves exempt from the rules they force on the rest us.
I have written the Speaker of The House - To Be .... John Boehner, requesting that he and all other members of Congress pass through the same security screening at airports and office buildings that the rest of us must use. Send him your message, at:

Food safety bill passes Senate, but dead in the water because …
.... the Senate screwed up. They committed a blatantly un-Constitutional act by including the levying of a tax within their bill. Of course, only the House may originate taxing authorizations so the Food Safety Act is DEAD!
