Congressional Democrats Couldn’t Say Where Constitution Authorized Insurance Mandate

How to Get Rich from Liberal Delusions

"The secret to instant wealth is to spot a mass delusion and bet against it.

Global warming fraud is now in the midst of a slow collapse.  The Chicago Carbon Exchange just closed, because the investors figured out the scam.  But the list of liberal crazes is long, and we can expect the media to make up ever-new headlines to keep their business model alive.  For George Soros, it's not only profitable, but it's also a good cause, because socialist world government is his guiding fantasy.  It was socialist Europe that made up global warming, and turned Mad Cow into a mass hysteria.  You can bet that the big investors had it figured out long before things got rolling.

Then there is the Chevy Volt, a fantasy "hybrid," financed in part by thirteen trillion tax dollars from Obama.  There will be huge government subsidies for electrical charging stations to juice up your golf cart every forty miles.  So invest in golf cart technology. "

Judge uses Obama’s words against him

"“I note that in 2008, then-Senator Obama supported a health care reform proposal that did not include an individual mandate because he was at that time strongly opposed to the idea, stating that, ‘If a mandate was the solution, we can try that to solve homelessness by mandating everybody to buy a house,’” Judge Vinson wrote in a footnote toward the end of his 78-page ruling Monday."

Tawdry details of Obamacare

"Last year, we learned that the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) had granted 111 waivers to protect a lucky few from the onerous regulations of the new national health care overhaul. That number quickly and quietly climbed to 222, and last week we learned that the number of Obamacare privileged escapes has skyrocketed to 733.

Not only are the payoffs an affront to our democracy and an outright assault on our taxpayers, the timing itself of the latest release makes a mockery of this administration’s transparency promises. More than 500 of the 733 waivers, we now know, were granted in December but kept conveniently under wraps until the day after the president’s State of the Union address. HHS is no stranger to covering up bad news; in fact, this is becoming a disturbing pattern. Last year, Secretary Kathleen Sebelius hid from Congress until after the Obamacare vote a damning report from the Medicare and Medicaid Office of the Actuary showing Obamacare would cost $311 billion more than promised and would displace 14 million Americans from their current insurance. About That School Obama Highlighted in the State of the Union…

"In spite of the woeful state of education in many areas of the country, there are still reasons to be encouraged. President Obama outlined one such example in his State of the Union speech last week......

“Take a school like Bruce Randolph in Denver,” the president said. “Three years ago, it was rated one of the worst schools in Colorado. Last May, 97 percent of seniors received their diploma.”
Wow, that’s an impressive turnaround. How did they go from bad to great? Well, that part of the story ended up on the cutting room floor during the SOTU editing process, for obvious reasons....."

The Rest of the World and Obama

"Over the past two years and into 2011, the United States has gone on the most astounding spending and money-printing binge in the history of mankind.  From the end of 2008 through the end of 2011, over $4.3 trillion will have been added to the national debt.  That is the same as the annual Gross Domestic Product of the third-largest economy in the world: Japan.  Further, the Federal Reserve has increased the money supply by an equally astounding $1.5 trillion, engulfing the world in dollars and thereby triggering inflation, disrupting the normal flow of capital, and promoting additional apprehension of the future.

..... in my many conversations with those overseas, the subject matter turns quickly to Barack Obama.  The most frequent adjectives used to describe our current president are "incompetent," "amateurish," "narcissistic," "inexperienced," and "haughty."  This is often followed by a confession that accusers too were impressed with Obama during his campaign and fell for his smooth delivery, rhetoric, and appearance."

Amazon Has First $10B Quarter and It Totally Dominates the Retail Book Market by Market Cap

Founder and CEO of Amazon, Jeff Bezos said in a statement: "We had our first $10 billion quarter, and after selling millions of third-generation Kindles with the new Pearl e-ink display during the quarter, Kindle books have now overtaken paperback books as the most popular format on Amazon.com. Last July we announced that Kindle books had passed hardcovers and predicted that Kindle would surpass paperbacks in the second quarter of this year, so this milestone has come even sooner than we expected – and it’s on top of continued growth in paperback sales."

Excuses, Excuses

"Obama understands so little of capitalism that he actually thinks that businesses need more government oversight and "investment." He simply can't get beyond the idea of statism: the belief that every aspect of life, from what sort of car the public drives to how much profit a business is allowed to retain, must be decided by government planners in Washington. Now, at the desperate hour when America needs free-market capitalism above all else, Obama's response is more regulation."

1,968 New & Expanded Secretarial Powers Under the Health Reform Law

 A new chart  [Zoom In to read details] by the Center for Health Transformation reveals the unprecedented 1,968 new and expanded powers given to Health and Human Services (HHS) Secretary Kathleen Sebelius under the health reform law. From powers over access to drugs and insurance coverage to care delivery processes and changes to Medicare, the chart reveals the 1,968 grants of new and expanded powers to the secretaries of Departments of Labor, Treasury and Health and Human Services. The overwhelming majority, however, will fall under HHS Secretary Kathleen Sebelius. Examples of the 1,968 new and expanded powers include:
  • The Secretary will now identify, as appropriate, categories and classes of drugs that the Secretary determines are of “clinical concern” (Section 3307);
  • The Secretary will decide how drugs are dispensed in long-term care facilities (Section 3310);
  • The Secretary will develop oral healthcare components, including “tooth-level surveillance,” a clinical examination of every dental surface in the mouth (Section 4102);
  • The Secretary may establish insurance premium ratings for states (Section 1201);
  • The Secretary may use comparative effectiveness research (Section 6301).

Where Did the Stimulus Go?

"To sum up: the federal government borrowed funds that it mainly sent to households and to state and local governments. Only an immaterial amount was used for federal purchases of goods and services. The borrowed funds were mainly used by households and state and local governments to reduce their own borrowing. In effect, the increased net borrowing at the federal level was matched by reduced net borrowing by households and state and local governments.

So there was little if any net stimulus. The irony is that basic economic theory and practical experience predicted this would happen. If policymakers had only remembered what Milton Friedman, Franco Modigliani, and Ned Gramlich had said, we might have avoided these two extremely costly policy failures."

Hawaii official now swears: No Obama birth certificate

"Former Hawaii elections clerk Tim Adams has now signed an affidavit swearing he was told by his supervisors in Hawaii that no long-form, hospital-generated birth certificate existed for Barack Obama Jr. in Hawaii and that neither Queens Medical Center nor Kapi'olani Medical Center in Honolulu had any record of Obama having been born in their medical facilities.......

"My basic assumption is that he wasn't born there," Adams said. "Certifications of Live Birth were given to people who were born at home, or to people who were born overseas and whose parents brought them back to the islands. If his parents were U.S. citizens, or if one parent was a U.S. citizen, as was the case with Obama, the family would apply for a Hawaiian birth certificate when the parents came back from overseas. That's normally how you would have gotten on [a Certification of Live Birth] in the 1960s."

Frances Fox Piven Rings in The New Year By Calling for Violent Revolution

Life's tough for $144,000 garbage collectors - Let's tax their "excess profits"

"Taxpayers in the Big Apple are forced to pay $144,000 a year for salary, health and pension benefits for garbage workers, who are unskilled but unionized laborers."

NYC is not alone, of course. Other cities and states face similar out-of-control expenses for government employees.  These rampant benefit increases occurred  when governments bought in to union demands for benefits over the last decades.  Governments believed that the 8% return they were getting on their benefit fund investments would continue forever.

Some would like government to rescind these contracts and get spending under control.

"The Contract Clause, [of the U.S. Constitution], prohibits states from enacting any law that retroactively impairs contract rights, such as defined benefit pensions and health care policies. .....

Local governments that are running out of money and are willing to go bankrupt could probably wipe out the pensions if they really wanted to.....

Alternatively, says Hans Bader, a senior attorney at the libertarian think tank the Competitive Enterprise Institute, the Republican House, which just overturned President Obama's health-care reform could impose a tax for excessive pensions and benefits on those local and state government workers, and refund the monies to their troubled states and municipalities.

"Liberals like excess profits taxes levied on oil companies.  Why not take a page out of their playbook and impose an excess profits tax on public employees?"

Blaming the Right for the Giffords Attack Is Pure McCarthyism

"A characteristic of many contemporary minds is susceptibility to the superstition that all behavior can be traced to some diagnosable frame of mind that is a product of promptings from the social environment. From which flows a political doctrine: Given clever social engineering, society, and people, can be perfected. This supposedly is the path to progress. It actually is the crux of progressivism. And it is why there is a reflex to blame conservatives first.

Last year, New York Times columnist Charles Blow explained that "the optics must be irritating" to conservatives: Barack Obama is black, Nancy Pelosi is female, Rep. Barney Frank is gay, Rep. Anthony Weiner (an unimportant Democrat, listed to serve Blow's purposes) is Jewish. "It's enough," Blow said, "to make a good old boy go crazy." The Times, which after the Tucson shooting said "many on the right" are guilty of "demonizing" people and of exploiting "arguments of division," apparently was comfortable with Blow's insinuation that conservatives are misogynistic, homophobic, racist anti-Semites.

On Sunday, the Times explained Tucson: "It is facile and mistaken to attribute this particular madman's act directly to Republicans or tea party members. But . . . " The "directly" is priceless."
