How Government-Employee Unions Bankrupted Most States, and Why The Charade is Now Over

The U.S. annual deficit...... the amount we are going "in the hole" for every year is $3,500 Billion ($3.5T).  That amounts to $33 each for EVERY PERSON WHO HAS EVER WALKED THE FACE OF THE ENTIRE EARTH !!!!!!!
It Is ONE HELLUVA BIG NUMBER!

And we have out of control government spending to thank for that.

AWOL Dems defy ballot box

"The lawmakers in exile call this a defense of democracy. In truth, it's a step toward anarchy. If it catches on as a practice, it will officially end government by, of and for the people.

It's part of a disturbing trend by Democrats to embrace a by-any-means-necessary approach to governing. We saw it during passage of Obamacare, when the Democratic majority in the U.S. Senate blew up the rules to block a filibuster. In Massachusetts, Democrats used after-the-fact law changes in a failed attempt to keep a Republican from succeeding Ted Kennedy.

Obama trashed bankruptcy law to move the United Auto Workers ahead of General Motors' and Chrysler's secured creditors. And his regulatory agencies are bypassing Congress to enact policies he knows the elected representatives would never approve.

The strategy exposes the arrogant liberal conviction that they are justified in imposing their will on the people, because only they know what's best for America."

Why Can't We Be More Like Sweden?

"For a time, Sweden seemed immune to the kind of anti-immigrant sentiment blossoming elsewhere on the European continent. Its generous welfare and asylum policies have allowed hundreds of thousands of refugees to settle here, many in recent years from Muslim countries. Nearly a quarter of Sweden’s population is now foreign born or has a foreign-born parent."

Obfuscating Inflation

"The government in Washington D.C. seems to be going out of its way to obfuscate and confuse the American citizens as to various economic factors and what the reality is of the situation the people find themselves in.  Instinctively the people know matters are worse than what they are being told and with the most incompetent and unscrupulous resident of the White House in the country's history in charge there is great unease that their government is not being honest with its citizens.  More than ever the American people deserve to be told the truth.

The bottom line and the only meaningful job statistic the American people should pay attention to: if the monthly job creation number is not at least 250,000 every month then the United States is going backwards regardless of any games played by the various government agencies and their data.

Another area of obfuscation is the true cost of living and the rising cost of commodities and industrial raw materials. "

End Forced Unionism

"Americans do not understand what "labor unions" mean.  Nothing prevents a group of workers at a plant or office from getting together, signing an agreement which delegates power to negotiate contracts to certain representatives, and then proceeding with collective bargaining by those workers who chose to sign the agreement.  That is not unionism; it is simply a business arrangement, much like when an athlete has an agent or a client has a lawyer.

The problem with unionism is that those who do not feel such an agreement is needed are compelled to surrender their right to bargain for their working conditions and compelled, as well, to support a vast, expensive bureaucracy of labor satraps. "

Gingrich: If Palin Took Obama Actions, There Would Be Calls for Impeachment

"In an exclusive interview with Newsmax.TV Friday, former House Speaker Newt Gingrich said President Barack Obama’s decision not to fully enforce the Defense of Marriage law eventually could lead to a constitutional crisis, as he has directly violated his constitutional duties by arbitrarily suspending a law.

Gingrich even suggested that, if a “President Sarah Palin” had taken a similar action, there would have been immediate calls for her impeachment. Asked directly whether Obama could be subject to articles of impeachment, Gingrich said, “I think that’s something you get to much later. But I think clearly it is a dereliction of duty. Clearly it’s a violation of his constitutional oath. Clearly it is not something that can be allowed to stand." "

State Budget Battles Herald the Return of the Grown-Ups

"Behold the return of the grown-ups.

Neither the first caucus nor first primary has been held. No Republican candidates have yet to declare formally. Who will face off against the union-label community organizer-in-chief? That’s not really important. Because the whole country recognizes that the presidential kick-off is taking place right now in state budget battles across the Midwest.

But there’s a limit to how many times the public can be fooled with lying rhetoric. The false heralds of  “stimulus” and “shovel-ready projects” and “jobs saved and created” have already sobered the fawning masses. Where two years ago they lunged towards the cliff, shouting “Yes we can,” they are now standing stalwart with heels firmly dug into the cliff’s edge, shouting “Stop before it’s too late!” "

Wisconsin Assembly Democrats Act Like Infantile Losers, Not Serious Elected Representatives Holding "Adult Conversations"

A textbook example showing how LEFTIST pressure from organizers can whip up otherwise rational adults into ridiculous behavior.

"The strongest unions in the country openly discuss this persuasion as a positive and incredibly important part of the “Fabric of America.” Andy Stern (the President of the SEIU) said, “We use the power of persuasion, and if that doesn’t work, we use the persuasion of power.” (Wall Street Journal) His power and labor force contributed millions to the Presidential election, but also, according to that article, put aside an additional $10 million fund to get people “un elected.”

Workers are called into weekly meetings with organizers and co-workers. Issues are “generated” if they don’t already exist. “Inside” people are used to create an issue and through persuasion, the “trickle down” effect is used. People begin to believe the issue is their own, because they have to. They easily jump on the bandwagon. The organizer’s goal is to swiftly create that environment. Ninety nine percent of the time I barely had to speak at a union meeting, the workers issues became everyone’s issues. I used “mob rules” mentality to my advantage. "

"There is no reason for any Somali boat to ride the ocean waves – their meager shipping needs can be handled by carefully monitored commercial vessels, and they can be allowed small fishing boats close to shore.  Protecting the huge amount of commercial and private sea traffic in the Arabian Sea, Indian Ocean, and Gulf of Aden would require a massive fleet, standing guard and awaiting action at the convenience of pirates.  Aggressively hunting down and killing Somali boats is a much more practical use of our limited but powerful naval resources, and transfers the initiative to our Navy instead of the pirates.  It’s time to take the initiative. FL Governor Scott On Refusing Federal Tax Dollars For Unwanted Hi-Speed Rail

"As you may know last Wednesday, I informed U.S. Transportation Secretary Ray LaHood of the state’s decision to reject President Obama’s costly Tampa to Orlando high-speed rail project. Here are the facts about the project, and I ask you take action today to support this decision by sharing the facts on Facebook.   My decision to reject the project comes down to three main economic realities:

1. Capital cost overruns from the project could put Florida taxpayers on the hook for an additional $3 billion.

2. Ridership and revenue projections are historically overly-optimistic and would likely result in ongoing subsidies that state taxpayers would have to incur, which could cost from $300 million – $575 million over 10 years.

3. If the project becomes too costly for taxpayers and is shut down, the state would have to return the $2.4 billion in federal funds to D.C.

Let's get to work,

Governor Rick Scott"

The Bottom of the Teachers’ Union Barrel?

"The story focuses on Central Falls school in Rhode Island, an educational institute in such a sorry state of affairs that their drop-out rates were staggering and many students didn’t even log enough classroom time to receive a grade. Last year, in an apparent sign of throwing up their hands in despair, the school board took the drastic measure of firing all 88 of Central Falls’ teachers."

Fear not, however.   The union came to their rescue.  Not only were they rehired, but they were given a $3,000 raise.  The AVERAGE teacher's salary in this poverty stricken small town now makes $76,000 per year (I should say .... per 9 months), where the town average income is $22,000 per year.  And 93% of the students STILL FAIL TO MEET MINIMUM MATH AND READING LEVELS.

The Wrong Budget Debate

"The one who has gotten it mostly right was Gov. Daniels at CPAC, but you would never know it from the media coverage, which focused mostly on whether he was too short to be president. Daniels aimed his remarks not only at the economics, but mostly at the philosophical issue of what kind of society do we want, and what the proper role of government should be. His key point was that the only number worth discussing in the debate over deficits and cuts is $3.7 trillion -- the proposed budget for next year. Its sheer size is the problem, and if the size of government continues to grow and the debt obligations continue to explode it will be impossible for us to remain "self governed"; we will inevitably cede control over more and more of our lives to feed the central authority that needs to cover its self-fulfilling obligations. He uses the simple example of ObamaCare to make the case -- why shouldn't we simply trust the folks to use their own money to buy the kind of health care best suited to them, allow choice and competition to work, and minimize the role of government to supporting only the truly needy; that's a trillion dollars that stays with the folks, and doesn't pass through government hands on its way toward redistribution after the bureaucracy takes its cut. If you couch the debate in those terms, the choices become not which program to fund or not, but what government the people choose to have."

The national anthem isn’t a pop song

Our national anthem...... "It is not a pop ballad or a soul tune. Nor is it a Broadway standard or a heavy metal song. It is not something that the American Idol judges should ever have to critique (though Randy would undoubtedly declare any rendition of it “pitchy”). It is a song about the courage and devotion shown by a group of Americans who in the course of a raging British naval bombardment refused to let the Stars and Stripes fall, no matter the cost to life and limb. And it became a song about the kind of nation we have been and still are, through war and peace, boom and bust. It is about the never-say-die, never-give-in, never-yield attitude that has been the hallmark of our national character and our military’s steadfast defense of freedom from Valley Forge to Fort McHenry to St. Lo to Inchon to Baghdad and Kandahar. It’s about firemen and policemen running into the World Trade Center on 9/11. It’s about that flag flying proudly and defiantly over the land of the free and the home of the brave."

Fire Them All, Impeach The Rest !!

The Wisconsin Teacher's union rioting at the state capitol in Madison has been going on for three days now.  As many as 10,000 have been picketing, shouting and occupying the Capitol Building.  These are mostly teachers who have "called in sick" to such an extent that school's have been shut down in Madison.  The "sick" ploy is a ruse to get around the law which says that unauthorized absences from their job may be grounds for dismissal.

Isn't this a prime example of the BULLYING behavior about which progressives, including the White House, been cautioning us to avoid?

Teachers are rioting because newly elected Governor Walker has proposed that in order to balance the budget (a requirement under Wisc. law), teachers pay some small amount for their heretofore free health insurance and retirement plan.

Obama has called Walker's proposal an attempt to bust the union and has sent his chief union goon, Richard Trumka, president of the AFL-CIO, out to Madison to stir the pot. Obama's campaign organization "Organizing for America" has been spending his campaign funds in support of the striking teachers.

Meanwhile, to prevent a vote in the Wisconsin Senate on the proposal, fourteen Democrat Senators have fled the state to a motel in Illinois.  This prevents the Republican Legislature from assembling a quorum to vote.

I think the law is on Governor Walker's side to do the following two steps:

  • Fire all the teachers found to be picketing rather than lying abed at home sick.  They are guilty of unauthorized absence from their job.
  • Begin impeachment proceedings against all 14 legislators who are guilty of nonfeasance.
  • Remind Obama to keep his mouth and hands out of state government.

Have teacher unions nuked the fridge?

"It started in New Jersey, where Chris Christie decided that the only way to real education reform was to challenge the powerful teachers union in the state, 200,000 members strong, and to do it loudly and boldly.   That effort has spread through several states, with the latest battleground erupting in Wisconsin, where teachers staged a wildcat strike with mainly unwitting students in their tow......

.... taking the kids out of classes to march with them underscores another significant concern of the public regarding education.  Most of the students marching with their teachers had no idea of the finer points of Governor Scott Walker’s proposal to bring teacher pension contributions in line with the private sector, a position the union called “slavery” just a couple of months before conceding the point.  Nor do they understand the budget gap that Walker faces, or the nuances of economic policy, tax burdens, and growth policies.  All they know is what their teachers told them — and that speaks to political indoctrination conducted in public schools by activist teachers, and the inability of parents and communities to weed out inappropriate politicking in classrooms."

More Bad News on the Budget

"The budget is about $3.7 trillion. Of that we take in about $2 trillion in taxes. The rest is being borrowed at present. There's no way we can possibly put more than 20% of federal revenue toward interest, and this presumes a 3% interest rate on that debt, which is insanely optimistic after we manage to pile on another double. If we get a "Greece" style response and rates shoot upward, well, you can forget about it.

Obama's Media Machine: State Run Media 2.0?

Is the Obama Whitehouse developing news media outlets it can control, cutting off traditional repoting?

"
"The administration has narrowed access by the mainstream media to an unprecedented extent," said ABC News White House correspondent Ann Compton, who has covered seven administrations. "Access here has shriveled."

Members of the press have always had quibbles with White House media strategies, calling cut-backs in access an affront to transparency, even as administration officials insist they're simply taking advantage of new technologies.

But some say the current dynamic is different, and dangerous.  "They're opening the door to kicking the press out of historic events, and opening the door to having a very filtered format for which they give the American public information that doesn't have any criticism allowed," said University of Minnesota journalism professor and political communication analyst Heather LaMarre."

Just take this last item:  In the last two years
we have accumulated national debt at a rate
more than 27 times as fast as during the
rest of our entire nation's history. Over 27
times as fast! Metaphorically, speaking, if you
are driving in the right lane doing 65 MPH and a
car rockets past you in the left lane 27 times
faster
. . . it would be doing 1,755 MPH!
This is a disaster!

Obama 'Furious' With Hillary State Department Over Egypt

Obama administration official urges cable companies to carry Al-Jazeera

"AL Jazeera is filled with anti-American propaganda. It is also awash in anti-Semitism. The material broadcast stokes terror and violence.

Why would the person who Barack Obama appointed to be the Assistant Secretary at the Department of Homeland Security, Juliette Kayyem, advocate American cable companies carry the channel-a channel that cannot help but inflame tensions and anger and one that is not known for unbiased accuracy."

Clothing Prices to Rise 10% Starting in Spring

"Retailers and clothing makers cut frills and experimented with fabric blends to cut prices during the recession. But as the world economy recovers and demand for goods rises, a surge in labor and raw materials costs is squeezing retailers and manufacturers who have run out of ways to pare costs.

Cotton has more than doubled in price over the past year, hitting all-time highs."

What Happens in Vagueness Stays in Vagueness

"I recently watched a television program in which a woman described a baby squirrel that she had found in her yard. “And he was like, you know, ‘Helloooo, what are you looking at?’ and stuff, and I’m like, you know, ‘Can I, like, pick you up?,’ and he goes, like, ‘Brrrp brrrp brrrp,’ and I’m like, you know, ‘Whoa, that is so wow!’ ” "

Dubunking the leading Obamacare litigation myths

"In recent days, much ink has been spilled and a great deal of hot air expended by ObamaCare apologists seeking to defend the constitutionality of the radical overhaul of Americans’ healthcare delivery system.

In the process, a lot of misinformation has been disseminated. Here are some of the most common myths being peddled in defense of ObamaCare:  "

Nicolas Sarkozy joins David Cameron and Angela Merkel view that multiculturalism has failed

"French president Nicolas Sarkozy has joined David Cameron in condemning multiculturalism as a failure.

[U.K. Prime Minister] Cameron launched a scathing attack earlier this months on 30 years of multiculturalism in Britain warning that it fostered extremism.

His damning verdict came just months after German Chancellor Angela Merkel said that multiculturalism in Germany had failed."

Don't hold your breath waiting for Obama to jump on THIS bandwagon.

The hypocrisy of Michael Moore

"Michael Moore is a hypocrite. He embodies all that is wrong with Hollywood: He is a shameless, self-serving propagandist masquerading as an idealistic “artist.”

This week the famous left-wing movie director filed a lawsuit in Los Angeles Superior Court against the producers of his 2004 anti-war, anti-Bush film, “Fahrenheit 9/11.” The reason: Mr. Moore is demanding $2.7 million in unpaid profits that he says are owed to him. He has already pocketed nearly $20 million in profits from the blockbuster documentary. In other words, he has reaped a huge financial windfall. But this is not enough for him."

Food prices at record highs (Europe)

"Food prices hit a record high in January, contributing to unrest in North Africa and stoking fears about how the world will feed itself as the population continues to explode. Europe's agricultural markets play a key role in determining supply and prices, and European leaders have made the concept of "food security" a major part of their rhetoric in the first months of this year."

Navy spent $450,000 of taxpayer money on Super Bowl flyover... when the stadium roof was shut

"The U.S. Navy has been criticised for spending almost half a million dollars of taxpayers' money on a flyover at the Super Bowl - while the stadium roof was closed.

The estimated $450,000 expense was for four fighter jets that flew from Virginia to Texas and over the retractable roof of Cowboys Stadium in Dallas.

As it was broadcast on screens at the Super Bowl XLV on Sunday, spectators inside the stadium got the same view as people watching the five-second shot at home."

The Real 'Birther' Conspiracy Theory

Congress Has Time and Options on Debt Limit

"The massive federal budget deficit is unsustainable today because of out-of-control spending. Consequently, the federal government is about to run up against its statutorily imposed debt limit. Fortunately, Congress has options, and it has time to consider them carefully"

Who's Policing Amtrak Joe Biden's Rail Boondoggles?

"Compounding matters now, cronyism runs rampant in the federal rail bureaucracy. Biden's lobbyist son, Hunter, sits on the Amtrak board of directors. Amtrak Vice President Eleanor Acheson is a close pal of — you guessed it — Joe Biden. She oversees the very Law Department accused of interfering repeatedly with the taxpayer advocates in the inspector general's office. Acheson hired Biden's former Senate staffer Jonathan Meyer as her deputy general counsel. Meyer called it a "happy coincidence."

In another such fortuitous coincidence, one of the top beneficiaries of the new White House rail bailout is GE Transportation — the leading manufacturer of diesel-electric locomotives. President Obama recently named GE CEO Jeffrey Immelt to head the new White House jobs council."

Supreme Court warned: Don't avoid eligibility

"A veteran attorney who has pursued a lawsuit challenging Barack Obama's presidential eligibility since he was elected is telling the U.S. Supreme Court that if its members continue to "avoid" the dispute they effectively will "destroy the constitutional rule of law basis of our legal system."

Watch What He DOES ..... Not What He Says !!!

"During Sunday’s interview, Bill O’Reilly asked Obama if he is “a man who wants to redistribute wealth,” as The Wall Street Journal has described him.

The president denied it, again saying, “I didn't raise taxes once; I lowered taxes over the last two years.”  "

Lynching? It's OK With the NAACP

House Will Vote Next Week to Block Funding for Obamacare

"House Republicans aim to pass a spending measure next week that would immediately cut at least $32 billion from the government’s $3.7 trillion budget in an effort to trim record budget deficits.

Republican lawmakers are expected to unveil details of the spending-cut package on Thursday ahead of a wide-ranging debate on the House floor next week."

A 'high-speed' boondoggle

"Where can Congress start cutting spending? One obvious answer: high-speed rail.
The Obama administration is spending billions of stimulus dollars for rail projects that make no sense and that, if they're ever built, will be a drag on taxpayers indefinitely."
