Romney tosses out the name of a potential running mate

"So far, all the GOP candidates have played coy about whom they’d consider as a running mate — but frontrunner Mitt Romney finally mentioned a potential by name in an interview on Fox News last night:
“There are probably 15 names of people, including (New Hampshire Sen.) Kelly Ayotte,” Romney said in an interview on Fox News Monday night. “I mean, there are terrific Republicans in the Senate, in the House, in governors’ offices.” … "

The Road to Nowhere: The Higher Education Bubble and Liberal Arts Education

"In a sense, the higher education bubble is very much like the dotcom and mortgage bubbles before it. Everyone wants a college degree because it’s widely seen as “necessary step” in “getting ahead” and therefore, tuitions are skyrocketing, taking advantage of the situation.

It is vital to note that these massive tuition hikes are far more than measures to keep up with advances in technology or inflation rates. In fact, when compared with the increase of the overall inflation rate since 1985 (115.06%) college tuition rates have risen 498.31%. The cause? Government subsidies.

In 1965, as part of President Johnson’s Higher Education Act, such programs as the Pell Grant and soon-to-be defunct Federal Stafford Loan were introduced. The flaws in the philosophy behind such plans are obvious. The government makes these programs available, essentially “free money” if need is demonstrated, and so colleges raise tuitions accordingly. Students then need more loans to compensate for the increase, when results in more government aid, and the cycle continues."

Nancy Pelosi Pushing Government to Institute Hitler Youth Read more: Nancy Pelosi Pushing Government to Institute Hitler Youth | Godfather Politics h

"... now House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi has announced that she intends to push for national childcare reform, supposedly modeled after Obamacare but is starting to sound more like it is being modeled after Hitler Youth.

In 1920, Adolf Hitler formed the Youth League of the National Socialist Workers’ Party. In 1922, a new youth organization emerged that eventually became known as Hitler Youth. It targeted boys ages 14-18. Eventually a second group was formed for boys ages 10-14 and a girls’ organization that covered ages 10-18. The goal of the Youth organizations was to indoctrinate the next generation of leaders to help insure the success for the Nazi Party.

From 1922 to 1945, the Hitler Youth saw thousands of teenaged kids turning in their parents, siblings, aunts and uncles, grandparents, cousins and friends, the government for speaking out against Hitler and his Nazi rule. Thousands of people were imprisoned, beaten and even executed. They turned in their neighbors and school mates who were Jewish."

Federal Government SCREWS an Atlantic Fishernan Out Of $$ Over Huge Tuna

"This fish story may lack the epic qualities of Ernest Hemingway's 1952 classic“The Old Man and the Sea,” but for New Bedford's Carlos Rafael, the outcome was about the same. In both cases, despite capturing and bringing home a huge fish, powerful circumstances conspired to deprive the luckless fishermen of a potentially huge reward.

Boat owner Rafael, a big player in the local fishing industry, was elated when the crew of his 76-foot steel dragger Apollo told him they had unwittingly captured a giant bluefin tuna in their trawl gear while fishing offshore.

It was also a lucrative one. Highly prized in Japan, a 754pound specimen fetched a record price at a Tokyo auction in January this year, selling for nearly $396,000.

However, when Rafael rolled down the dock in Provincetown there was an unexpected and unwelcome development. The authorities were waiting. Agents from the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration's Office of Law Enforcement informed him they were confiscating his fish — all 881 pounds of it."

DEMOCRAT POLLSTERS: Supercommittee Fiasco Shows Obama Needs to Go

Their comments came amid mounting criticism of Obama’s detachment from the workings of the supercommittee. As it neared its deadline, the president was off the mainland U.S. for nine days, hosting an Asian-Pacific summit in Hawaii before jetting off to Australia and Indonesia."

The Tipping Point and the Crossroads

"The United States finds itself at a crossroads, facing a stark reality it can no longer ignore or leave to future generations. We are presently on an irreversible path toward inevitable failure and second-class status. It all started forty-eight years ago, we now can see. The distance America has traveled down this road over the past forty-eight years -- a comparatively short period within the historical life of a nation -- is astounding.

All the upheaval and radicalism spawned in the decade of the 1960s has culminated in the election of Barack Obama. He was born in 1961, the son of avowed Marxist parents. Not only in his childhood, but during all of his formative years, he was immersed in the extremism of the left. He knows no other course of action. He is incapable of and has no interest in understanding the dilemma the country faces except that it accelerates the transformation of an allegedly "unfair and racist" society. The combination of the fiscal path chosen by Lyndon Johnson and the statist policies pursued by Obama and today's Democratic Party has greatly accelerated the potential collapse of the United States.

Thus, America is at a crossroads. If Barack Obama, the most extreme president in American history, is re-elected and the current governing class remains in place, there will be no turning back. The worst fears that came over me on that Monday in November of 1963 will come to pass, and the assassination of John F. Kennedy will have been the tipping point that precipitated the fall of a great nation."

Dutch fall out of love with windmills

"When the Netherlands built its first sea-based wind turbines in 2006, they were seen as symbols of a greener future.

Towering over the waves of the North Sea like an army of giants, blades whipping through the wind, the turbines were the country's best hope to curb carbon emissions and meet growing demand for electricity

But five years later the green future looks a long way off. Faced with the need to cut its budget deficit, the Dutch government says offshore wind power is too expensive and that it cannot afford to subsidize the entire cost of 18 cents per kilowatt hour -- some 4.5 billion euros last year"

Socialism's Fundamental Flaws

"The official, ultimate demise of the greatest socialist experiment in history, that of the Union of Soviet Socialist Republics, occurred, ironically, on Christmas Day 1991, but only after it had dispossessed, imprisoned, tortured and murdered untold millions of its own citizen in the quest for the workers' chimerical paradise of equality and fairness, where each was projected to produce according to his ability and receive according to his needs. After 69 years of unremitting misery for the overwhelming majority of its people -- the socialist Nirvana never coming even remotely within sight -- the inevitable economic collapse took place, leaving hapless millions in grinding poverty. However, Westernized socialism, as practiced in European social democracies and to a lesser extent in the U.S., is still alive, no matter how unwell. What salient faults brought down Soviet socialism and what lessons can be drawn? Are fault lines emerging in socialism's Western iterations which, if addressed, may prevent disaster?"

The Secrets of Soros, Obama, Occupiers and the MSM (Part 1)

"Snopes.com just verified last Thursday that Vice President Joe Biden's attorney son, Robert Hunter Biden, was retained for years to "undertake some lobbying efforts on behalf of Brookfield Office Properties," which just happens to own Zuccotti Park in New York, where the Occupiers rally their national movement.

Snopes.com also verified that New York Mayor Michael Bloomberg's live-in girlfriend, Diana L. Taylor, is on the board of directors of Brookfield Office Properties.

And just two months ago in September, the federal government's Department of Energy guaranteed a stimulus "loan" of $168.9 million to Brookfield Asset Management, which is a parent company of Brookfield Office Properties.

But I'm sure those local and Washington governmental associations with Occupy Wall Street are all just coincidental and inconsequential, right?"

The End of the Light Bulb as We Know It

"I was at Home Depot making a beeline for the light bulb aisle.  Why? Because the end of days is drawing nigh.  Not in the Biblical sense, but in the Environmental Protection Agency sense: there were only a scant eight weeks (now only seven) before the end of the light bulb as we know it.  As of January 1, 2012, Americans will have their freedom of light bulb choice snuffed out by an omnibus 2007 law requiring that general-purpose bulbs be 25% more energy-efficient than the current, justly-beloved, incandescent bulb.

There are a few exceptions, but the next 49 days are the last for the sale of 100-watt incandescent bulbs.

The 2010 elections demonstrated that Americans are fed up with government intrusion. The federal government has crept so deep into our lives that federal agencies now determine what kind of light bulbs the American people are allowed to purchase. "

Why Dems can’t quit Occupy Wall Street

"The Occupy protests are about jobs.  The Occupiers are unemployed and they tend to have a certain class of college degree and cannot find a certain class of job.  Anderson strikes close to the heart of the problem with Blue Inequality:

The helping professions, the professions of therapeutic authoritarianism (the social workers as well as the public safety workers), the virtuecrats, the regulatory class, etc., have a problem — they mostly service and manage individuals, the client-consumers of the welfare state.  Their rents are not leveraged very much, certainly not globally, and are limited to what amounts to an hourly wage.  The method of ramping up wages, however, is through public employee unions and their own special ability to access the public-private divide.   But, as everyone understands, that model no longer works, because it has overreached and overleveraged, to the point that even the system’s most sympathetic politicians understand that it cannot pay up."

David Axelrod's Pattern of Sexual Misbehavior

"Herman Cain has spent his life living and working all over the country -- Indiana, Georgia, Minnesota, Nebraska, Kansas, Washington, D.C. -- but never in Chicago.

So it's curious that all the sexual harassment allegations against Cain emanate from Chicago: home of the Daley machine and Obama consigliere David Axelrod.

Suspicions had already fallen on Sheila O'Grady, who is close with David Axelrod and went straight from being former Chicago mayor Richard M. Daley's chief of staff to president of the Illinois Restaurant Association (IRA), as being the person who dug up Herman Cain's personnel records from the National Restaurant Association (NRA).

The Daley-controlled IRA works hand-in-glove with the NRA. And strangely enough, Cain's short, three-year tenure at the NRA is evidently the only period in his decades-long career during which he's alleged to have been a sexual predator."

BREAKING NEWS: DEMS WALK AWAY FROM SUPER COMMITTEE

Latest update on the lack of progress for Dems and Republicans to reach a tax deal. Yesterday Democrats of the Super Committee rejected Republicans' offer to "raise federal tax collections by nearly $300 billion over the next decade."

Accuser filed complaint in next job

"A woman who settled a sexual harassment complaint against GOP presidential candidate Herman Cain in 1999 complained three years later at her next job about unfair treatment, saying she should be allowed to work from home after a serious car accident and accusing a manager of circulating a sexually charged email, The Associated Press has learned.

To settle the complaint at the immigration service, Kraushaar initially demanded thousands of dollars in payment, a reinstatement of leave she used after the accident earlier in 2002, promotion on the federal pay scale and a one-year fellowship to Harvard's Kennedy School of Government, according to a former supervisor familiar with the complaint. The promotion itself would have increased her annual salary between $12,000 and $16,000, according to salary tables in 2002 from the U.S. Office of Personnel Management.
Kraushaar told the AP she considered her employment complaint "relatively minor" and she later dropped it"

Read this entire piece and you will get Herman Cain's views on the entire matter.  It is VERY refreshing to hear from a major political candidate.  Just the sort of approach we need to get our federal government back on OUR track !

Why Science Majors Change Their Minds (It’s Just So Darn Hard)

"Freshmen in college wade through a blizzard of calculus, physics and chemistry in lecture halls with hundreds of other students. And then many wash out.

Studies have found that roughly 40 percent of students planning engineering and science majors end up switching to other subjects or failing to get any degree. That increases to as much as 60 percent when pre-medical students, who typically have the strongest SAT scores and high school science preparation, are included, according to new data from the University of California at Los Angeles. That is twice the combined attrition rate of all other majors. "
[NY Times]

Nothing new here ! This was true 50 years ago when clipper spent six years getting an Engineering degree in what was then a five year course.  Engineering students back then saw classmates drop out of Engineering to go into History, Education, and other "Liberal Arts", simply because Engineering was "too hard".  As high achiever high school grads (yes - we had grade inflation even in high school back then), they did not like becoming a C-average student in Engineering!  Why not go major in Art History and graduate Summa cum-Laude?

Occupy crime wave update

"Events took a tragic turn up north at Occupy Vancouver. Jim Hoft catches the story of a woman at Occupy Vancouver who found dead on Saturday in her tent. The protester apparently died of a drug overdose.

You can’t make this stuff up. Jim observes that “in a strange twist of events, the band D.O.A. began performing a live outdoor concert about 20 meters away while police set up crime scene tape around the now-collapsed tent.”  "

Media to be controlled with ever more sophisticated technical means

"Various Russian agencies are being equipped technically to control the media, including those in the world web. They explain that there are both legal requirements and professional necessity for this. However, the fear in society about tighter censorship, especially on the Internet, is only getting worse."

Sounds like the Russians are tightening the noose on the free flow of information.

Nazi-saluting nationalists march through Moscow in 'Take back Russia' protest over Muslim migrants

"Thousands of far-right Nazi-saluting nationalists marched in Moscow today in a 'Take Back Russia' protest at Muslim migrants.  Resentment is growing over the migrants from Russia's Caucasus and the money the Kremlin sends to those troubled regions.  Chanting 'Russia for Russians' and 'Migrants today, occupiers tomorrow,' about 5,000 demonstrators, mostly young men, marched through a working-class neighbourhood on the outskirts of the capital."

*UPDATED* #OccupyWallStreet: The Rap Sheet, So Far

"One of the secret weapons the corrupt mainstream media uses in their never-ending quest to Palace Guard for the left is context. For example, when it came to the Tea Party, the MSM was notorious for amplifying  a single incident (that was usually a lie) and using it to attempt to smear and define an entire movement. This is what you do when you want to quickly take out a political enemy.

The MSM’s contextual game changes, however, when their desire is to strengthen a movement and give it credibility and room to grow.  By dutifully reporting individual incidents but not reporting on the growing scope and size of Occupy Wall Street lawlessness, the MSM is willfully covering up the violence, vandalism, and anti-Semitism that truly does define this movement.

What I’ve collected below  is far from comprehensive but still shows over 75 [now 150] incidents of sexual assault,  violence, vandalism,  anti-Semitism, extortion, perversion,  and lawlessness."

Obama insults Sarkozy at G-20 Summit

"Barack Obama who campaigns against his opponents by constantly denigrating and belittling them, thought he'd try a joke out at the G-20 Summit on Friday.

But one thing about narcissism that is obvious to others is a lack of empathy - the inability to recognize how one's words are affecting another. Obama is so wrapped up in himself and his own brilliance that he was oblivious to the insult he delivered to the French president.
What a sad commentary on a man who can't engage his opponents without delivering personal insults."

UPDATE:  Sarkozy insult to 'island' Britain: Snarling French president dismisses the English saying 'you don't understand Europe'
"French president Nicolas Sarkozy launched an astonishing attack on Britain’s attitude to Europe last night.   The furious French leader was branded the ‘new de Gaulle’ after claiming the British can’t comprehend Europe because we are ‘an island’."

Breaking: Joel Bennett – Lawyer for Cain Accuser – Releases Statement

Until these women, who have publicly (through their attorneys) "described" their victimization, subject themselves to the face-to-face scrutiny of the press to the extent Cain has, their whimpering should be relegated to the dustbin of history.  Most Americans find it grossly unfair, unseemly, and just plain chicken s--t for accusers to project, then run and hide from investigation.

Unions & #OccupyWallStreet Reveal Their Hidden Agenda: A Worldwide Financial Tax

"On Thursday, the #OccupyWallStreet and union movement will be taking is carnival show on the road to the U.S. Treasury building in Washington, D.C. What is their agenda? To protest for a worldwide tax on all financial transactions involving the purchase or sale of stocks, bonds, commodities, unit trusts, mutual funds, and derivatives such as futures and options. They call it the “Robin Hood Tax.”"

Corporations Don’t Pay Taxes – Ever!

"A CNN article reports that many corporations don’t pay income taxes, and many more don’t pay the 35 percent corporate tax rate. The average tax is around 18 percent. You and I should be thankful that some corporations don’t pay any taxes and be upset that the average tax rate is 18 percent.

When a corporation pays taxes, it counts those taxes as an expense. All business expenses are passed on to consumers. That means that they are passed on to you and me. When Congress calls for more taxes on Big Oil, they are actually calling for a tax on us. This is in addition to the taxes we already pay to the state where we buy the gas and the federal government."

More than half health care deadlines missed by Obama administration

He cannot even administer those laws HE WANTED!!

"The Obama administration has failed to meet more than half of the new health care law's deadlines, from submitting plans for new, value-based Medicare purchasing programs to publishing criteria for determining the medically under-served.

A report requested by Sen. Tom Coburn, Oklahoma Republican, indicates that the Department of Health and Human Services and other federal agencies missed 18 of 30 deadlines since the Affordable Care Act was passed in March 2010."

Warning: Obama Ed aims at U.S. takeover

All schools – even parents at home – may be forced to teach gov't agenda

"An organization that monitors the U.S. government's influence on education, and specifically on parents who choose to school their own children, is warning of a pending move in Washington that would result in "de facto national education standards.

The measure could not only require parents who home school their children to teach certain government agenda issues but also effectively remove much of the decision-making authority of local school boards and districts, warns the Home School Legal Defense Association."

Sherriff Joe Demands to See Obama Birth Certificate Documentation

"Sheriff Arpaio is a no nonsense law enforcement leader that has been extremely tough on criminals and those in the jails.

Sheriff Joe is also friends with retired Graham County (AZ) Sheriff Richard Mack who won a case in the US Supreme Court.  The Court ruled that the county sheriff is the top legal authority in their county and even have jurisdiction over federal officers.

In order for anyone to be placed on an election ballot in Maricopa County, they must provide the proper documentation to prove that they meet the eligibility requirements, and that includes anyone running for the office of President of the United States.  In other words, Sheriff Joe, the ultimate authority in the county has to be convinced beyond a reasonable doubt as to the authenticity of Obama’s birth status before his name will be placed on the 2012 ballot in this heavily populated county.

Not satisfied with the several different versions of Obama birth certificates released by the White House, Sheriff Joe launched an official investigation, run by his Cold Case Posse.  Their task is to determine the eligibility of Barack Hussein Obama to run for the office of president. "

Higher Education; Just Another Government Created Bubble

" a lot of noise is being made about the debt burden of younger Americans who have mortgaged their future to achieve what is more or less a worthless piece of paper. Not surprisingly, most of that noise is being made by the same geniuses who though that shelling out $100K to major in Feminist Studies was a great idea and going to get them laid."

AG Holder's Walls Come Tumblin' Down

"The pressure on Attorney General Eric Holder to resign over the Fast and Furious scandal keeps mounting. The Daily Caller reported 17 members of Congress are now demanding Holder step down pronto. Steve Bridges as "President Barack Obama"

The Herman Cain Allegations

"Back when I was a lawyer I handled several sexual harassment suits. None of mine settled for less than the high end of six figures.

Reading about these two complaints, my gut reaction to them is that settling for five figures, which could be as little as $10,000.00 and as high as $99,999, was “go away” money.

If the Chief Executive Officer of the National Restaurant Association, at the time one of the top 25 trade associations in Washington, D.C., were sexually harassing someone, that someone could get a lot of money. It just strikes me that a settlement for less than six figures is money paid to deal with the nuisances of an employee fired or otherwise let go who decided to raise the specter of harassment to get more money to leave without causing a scene.

Dealing with harassment claims, no matter how substantive or frivolous, is one of the costs of doing business in America that causes more and more businesses to not do business in America."

Sheriff Joe's posse delivers promised Obama surprise

"Arizona's maverick Sheriff Joe Arpaio promised surprises in his jurisdiction's investigation of Barack Obama's eligibility for the presidential ballot and his Cold Case Posse is delivering – raising questions that touch on the authenticity of the long-form birth certificate issued last April and the possibility Obama is using a fraudulent Social Security Number.

Sources close to the investigation say the posse has decided it needs to see original birth records before it can conclude whether Obama should be eligible for the presidential ballot in 2012, not an electronic file or scanned copies.

The sources say the panel needs to examine the microfilm documenting Obama's birth, as well as the ink-and-paper original 1961 birth records the Hawaii Department of Health is holding in its vault."

Cain campaign has biggest online fundraising day

"Two sources within the Cain campaign are telling me that although Mr. Cain was hit with sexual harassment accusations in the 90's from two females who worked for him, when he was president of the National Restaurant Association, Monday's online campaign fundraising for the campaign was the best ever up to this point.

Human Events is reporting that Cain Campaign Manager Mark Block says the campaign raised $250,000 in online donatinos in one day. However, one Cain campaign source confirmed to me that the fundraising for Monday is well over $300,000."

Obama: The Affirmative Action President

"Imagine a future historian examining Obama's pre-presidential life: ushered into and through the Ivy League despite unremarkable grades and test scores along the way; a cushy non-job as a "community organizer"; a brief career as a state legislator devoid of legislative achievement (and in fact nearly devoid of his attention, so often did he vote "present"); and finally an unaccomplished single term in United States Senate, the entirety of which was devoted to his presidential ambitions.  He left no academic legacy in academia, authored no signature legislation as legislator.

Podhoretz puts his finger, I think, on the animating pulse of the Obama phenomenon -- affirmative action.  Not in the legal sense, of course.  But certainly in the motivating sentiment behind all affirmative action laws and regulations, which are designed primarily to make white people, and especially white liberals, feel good about themselves.

Unfortunately, minorities often suffer so that whites can pat themselves on the back.  Liberals routinely admit minorities to schools for which they are not qualified, yet take no responsibility for the inevitable poor performance and high drop-out rates which follow.  Liberals don't care if these minority students fail; liberals aren't around to witness the emotional devastation and deflated self esteem resulting from the racist policy that is affirmative action.  Yes, racist.  Holding someone to a separate standard merely because of the color of his skin -- that's affirmative action in a nutshell, and if that isn't racism, then nothing is.  And that is what America did to Obama.

True, Obama himself was never troubled by his lack of achievements, but why would he be?  As many have noted, Obama was told he was good enough for Columbia despite undistinguished grades at Occidental; he was told he was good enough for the US Senate despite a mediocre record in Illinois; he was told he was good enough to be president despite no record at all in the Senate.  All his life, every step of the way, Obama was told he was good enough for the next step, in spite of ample evidence to the contrary.  What could this breed if not the sort of empty  narcissism on display every time Obama speaks?"
