Costa 'showboating' may have caused disaster

"A risky practice by cruise ships of close-passing the island of Giglio in a foghorn-blasting salute to the local population appears to have contributed to the Costa Concordia disaster, officials and witnesses said on Sunday." [Emirates 24/7 News]

Yours truly passed by this island six weeks ago aboard a Regent Seven seas Cruise line ship, the MARINA, enroute from Civitivechia, Italy to Barcelona, Spain. Regent is a top notch line so I'm confident there was on our journey no risk of hot-dogging as, apparently, the COSTA Captain was doing. COSTA, a line owned by CARNIVAL, is among the bottom rated lines. You pays your $$ and you take your chances! [clipper]
