Consensus elusive at Americas summit

As hard as it is to get beyond the news stories of the Great Leader's personal guards being relieved for hiring a bunch of Colombian hookers ....... here's a story about the substance of the meeting of American leaders. It was about as successful as the Secret Service agent's rendezvous'..... Intense meeting, but lousy results!. [clipper]

"Barack Obama, the US president, said Washington had “never been more excited” about Latin America’s economic prospects, at a regional summit entitled “Connecting the Americas”.

But a political disconnection between north and south over the issues of Cuba and the Falkland Islands threatened to make this year’s meeting the last.

The US opposed both motions. Barring a late breakthrough on Sunday, that closed the way to the usual final declaration." [Financial Times]
