Nixon started Supplemental Security Income (SSI). Different from SSDI (Social Security Disability Income), SSI was aimed at poor disabled or elderly people who didn’t meet SSDI’s basic work history requirement. The SSI program was to spend $1.5 billion in its first year (1974). SSI now, in 2014, expects to pay out $60 billion in benefits ...... and WE ARE STILL TRYING TO CREATE INCOME EQUALITY??????
