Republicans offer new bill to avert Medicare cuts for doctors

"Republicans filed a new bill in the U.S. House of Representatives late on Tuesday to avert a pay cut for doctors who participate in the Medicare health program for the elderly and disabled.

Backers are hopeful that the Republican-led House will approve the measure as early as Thursday, and then send it to the Democratic-led Senate for final congressional approval."

Our family doctor told us today that if Government cuts their Medicare reimbursement by another 25%, which is what this bill would avoid, his group will be forced to drop all Medicare patients.  He reported that all the cardiologists in Sarasota have now stopped serving Medicare patients. They simply cannot afford to continue, so to fill in the income gap the cardiologists will now offer General Practice" to their remaining non-Medicare patients.[clipper]
