Donald Trump: Concealed Carry Could Have Saved Lives in Orlando

"During a June 15 speech in Atlanta presumptive Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump explained that concealed carry could have stopped or at least lessened the number of dead in the Pulse Orlando attack.

He explained that the Orlando nightclub was a gun-free zone, saying it “was full of innocent people and you had no guns on the other side.” "

Florida is quite liberal in its issuance of concealed carry permits and allows guns to be carried concealed just about everywhere.  There is, however, a list of places in which guns may NOT be carried. They include, among others:
  • Any portion of an establishment licensed to dispense alcoholic beverages for consumption on the premises, which portion of the establishment is primarily devoted to such purpose;
Of course, the PULSE nightclub in Orlando would fall under this provision.  In spite of this, I am somewhat surprised that among the 300 some patrons in PULSE Saturday night, there was, apparently, no one carrying.

It is not unknown in Florida for those who are trained and licensed to carry concealed weapons, to say "to hell with it, I will carry and protect myself and loved ones wherever I go. If I need to kill someone to protect them, I'll deal with the legalities later."

Can you imagine that the legal system in Florida or elsewhere would today be prosecuting a PULSE patron who, after seeing - say twenty or thirty friends shot, pulled his (illegally carried) Glock pistol and downed the perp? Really? Beats the hell out of where we stand now with 102 persons shot!
