Accusation Against Writer Reopens Traumas of Czech Past

In my limited conversations during visits to the Czech Republic, I do believe there is a certain schizophrenia in Czech's attitudes towards the Communist years. Most folks roundly denounce the oppressiveness of those years, yet a few do comment on some of the benefits they miss. In my opinion, those who do long for some of the "old" (Communist) ways are those who enjoyed not working. Certainly the business climate, employment, individual wealth and MOST IMPORTANTLY the freedom to speak out have greatly improved. Private ownership of property is one of the most beneficial aspects, coming from a totalitarian regime where the State OWNED EVERYTHING !!!!
