TWO DOCUMENTS DETAILING NSA DATA GATHERING
Probably received by the Guardian from Snowden

Here are links to two documents, published by the UK Guardian on the internet. These documents describe in detail how NSA gather(s?)(ed?) telephone, email and internet data both content and what is called metadata on both international and U.S. individuals.

The documents are full of the alphabet soup references (SIGINT, FISA, PSP, TS//SI//NF, etc.) as well as the government's beloved  buzzwords..... but if you are interested and have the patience to make your way through them, the documents provide a good insight to how AND, importantly, why the NSA does its' job in this arena.

The documents are lengthy. The first is a lengthy website and the second is a 51 page document:

XKeyscore: NSA tool collects 'nearly everything a user does on the internet'

NSA inspector general report on email and internet data collection under Stellar Wind
