What Did You Think The Law Requires?

Think again

So you think that in order to vote in the U.S. one must be a citizen?  That's right.  In order for foreigners to become citizens they must take a test?  That's right as well.  The test includes, amongst other things, demonstration of proficiency in English?  Right again ! So voting should be carried out in English, right?  Guess again .......

EXCEPT for the exceptions!

See this page of "Exceptions and Accommodations" by the US Citizenship and Immigration Services Dept......
There are exceptions and modifications to the naturalization requirements that are available to those who qualify.
So the US Dept of Justice dispatches "monitors" to 18 states today to see to it that "jurisdictions are complying with the minority language provisions of the Voting Rights Act" !!!!

Wait a minute ...... I thought people who gained citizenship learned enough English to read a ballot. Why are our ballots here in Hillsborough County Florida printed in English AND SPANISH?

Why d'ya think????

Vote to get our country back on the right track!
